How to Treat a Cat Wound and Avoid Cat Scratch Fever

Cats have very sharp claws that are filled with germs. They with use them to hurt you if you scratch them on the tip of their nose. They don’t like that. If you don’t want to get cat scratch fever you must clean the wound immediately with soap and water.

Cat scratch fever the disease is discussed at length in the song Cat Scratch Fever by Ted Nugent which surprisingly neglects to mention the most important fact that cat scratch fever is caused by the bacterium Bartonella.

His statement that “It’s nothing dangerous, I feel no pain” is particularly misleading as cat scratch fever is most definitely dangerous and is always accompanied by pain.

However he contradicts himself sometime after by declaring “You know you got it when you’re going insane. It makes a grown man cry, cry, won’t you make my bed.”

This is closer to the actual symptoms of cat scratch fever though they are still inaccurate, especially in his reference to mental illness.

I wouldn’t use this song as a reference. Ted Nugent clearly did not understand the disease thoroughly when he wrote it!
